Earlier Mandi is known as Mandavya Nagar. It is situated in centre of Himachal Pradesh. It is also known as Chota Kashi. It is situated at bank of Beas river. It is connected with NH-21 by Delhi-Manali National Highway and NH-20 by Pathankot-Mandi highway.
It is the second most populous district of Himachal Pradesh after Kangra. It was formed by merging two state Mandi state and Suket State in 15 April 1948.
